"Eco-basement" exhibition

This Saturday (8th of December) is the day when the Semiotics Research Centre is organizing a unique one-day exhibition-competition. It's uniqueness lies in the fact that the event will take place in the cellar of an apartment complex.

The main aim of the exhibition is to become closer to the people. It is plain for everyone to see, that the only people visiting art exhibitions in Vilnius are those who are extremely interested in art. The doors of art galleries have become hard to reach for many people, either because they have no time, lack interest or simpy because they had never gotten into the habit. „Meno duobė“ and the Semiotics Research Center believe that an exhibition can be organized anywhere, even in a cellar of an apartment building. The only thing to keep in mind is that the ideas, expressed in the art reach its target audience.

Eco-Art in daily life – the way to change the world

The possibility of changing the world only becomes possible when we not only begin talking about environmental issues, but when families begin to use certain attitudes in their daily life. That is the opinion held by partners of an international Grundtvig project „Earth S.O.S through ECO-creativity“ from Italy, Lithuania, Hungary and Turkey.

Studies carried out by the partners show that while environmental problems have certainly become more widely discussed in media and political debates, their impact has proportionately lessened. It seems, that the majority of the people have gotten used to the grim tone used when speaking on environmental issues and started to effectively ignore them in the belief, that it is impossible to change anything. However, change become possible only is each and every one of us takes responsibility.

Erzurum - the third partner meeting

September 21-22 saw the third partner meeting in Erzurum. During the meeting, the partners discussed the activities of the project, drew plans for the future and participated in a workshop.

The two day meeting had the participants discussing the creation of pedagogic materials on “Adult Education and Eco Solutions”. The partners collectively decided, that if you want to educate society on ecology, you must make sure that they know the current situation and challenges the environment is facing because of the short-sighted actions of people. It is also imperative to find interesting ways to attract people to various activities, which would provide knowledge and inspire changes in everyday activities.

Lithuanian, Italian, Turkish and Hungarian representatives also participated in a workshop, where they themselves started to create eco art from egg shells. Furthermore, the participants also learned about the history of Erzurum and traditions of Turkey, visited Tortum Lake and Tortum Waterfall.

Adobe Construction camp in Hungary

Green Wave, co-organized with the MUD, made the Adobe Construction camp in Hungary. The camp was held in Somogyhárságy with more than 40 participants. Participants could choose their projects: they could make artistic things or make some rather practical things like ovens and sausage fumigants (to give smoky taste for the sausage). Professional people were invited to the workshop and held trainings: an adobe specialist from Mexico (los amigos del adobe)  and other Hungarian oven maker specialists.

The aim of this one week long workshop was to let people meet the old Hungarian traditions and make them to be aware of the benefits of using organic and traditional materials.
